Package format

Post by epaell »

I know I'm probably jumping the gun here ... but curious to know which package format you may intend using for the hypothetical Z80 card e.g. DIP or PLCC. I'd like to get myself prepared :-)

Just responded to your comment on YT. :D

My intention for the Z80 CPU Card, is to first use the DIP40 packaged Z80, as it would be the most commonly available and most common in peoples parts drawers!

But, as I personally have a thing for PLCC packages and PLCC TH sockets (meaning, still retro PCB friendly), I highly expect I'll probably make a follow-up PLCC PCB version. Especially, if Lez sends me some PLCC packaed Z80's to play with (a spare 8-bit CPU chip needs a PCB!). :geek:

That's great. Not quite in a parts drawer but I believe I have an original Z80 on an Apple CPM card (which I could make use of if I can't source one of the new fancy ones) :-)
