Re: MECB 6802 CPU Card
Hi David, I haven't tried any of this, but my thinking was that modern devices can run at much higher clock speeds than the 6800, so using a PLD with (say) a 64MHz clock you could easily divide the 1MHz required into slices (no RC network required). Similarly, with an MCU (eg PIC), a fast clock ...

Re: MECB 6802 CPU Card
Thanks for posting Greg! I remember there being several designs (of varying quality) at the time, but I was unable to find any when I searched recently.
I'm sure this could be easily replicated by a GAL (or PIC, ATTINY, etc), but care would have to be taken as the timing of both the rising and ...

Re: DREAM 6800 (now 6809) re-Creation
That's great Greg. I'm looking forward to seeing what you have done. I didn't ever get to use a DREAM 6800 at the time - just reading about it in Electronics Australia and hearing about people who had one.
It was indeed an exciting time. Just making an LED blink was like magic! And my 6800 with 2K ...

Re: DREAM 6800 (now 6809) re-Creation
Hi Greg,
I wanted to build one of those back then! However, money was an issue ("pocket money" as a student was always an issue), and Dad said there was "no way you are plugging your electronic junk into my TV!!!". So that was the end of that. Though I think I did refer to their design for my own ...

Re: MECB 6802 CPU Card
Hi Emil,
That's interesting! I see that they are using a PIC MCU to emulate the 6875 signals - which is mind blowing when you think about it. We were trying to use the regular 74xx TTL parts at the time (late 70's) and it was nearly impossible due to the speeds required to achieve the timing. Now ...

Re: MECB 6802 CPU Card
Hi David, I was using the 6800 and 6802 chips as part of my university course back in the late 70s. The 6802 is functionally equivalent, though not totally pin compatible, with the 6800. The major difference is that the 6800 requires a very precise dual phase clock generated by the 6875 chip, which ...

MECB 6802 CPU Card
Hi,
I am just sending my first version of a MECB 6802 CPU Card off for PCB manufacture. It is based on the 6502 design, as these chips are very similar. Indeed, there was a legal dispute around this with MOS having to redesign their first version.
I will share the details once I have tested it.

Re: Hi
Thanks!
Having been out of electronics for about forty years I'm finding it a bit like being a time traveler. All the things that made sense in the 1980's have been turned on their heads. At uni there was a 'Logic Analyser', only the Senior Lecturer was allowed anywhere near it as it was rumoured ...

Hi
Hi,
I'm Paul and I built my first microcomputer in my Dad's garage sometime around 1977 - as many did at the time.
I had just started an Electrical Engineering degree and we were going to be using 6800 microcomputers in second year. By salvaging some offcuts for a box, striping parts out of old ...
